Customer review

Understand what requires attention

AuthNTick’s review status helps the customer identify where further consideration may be required. It directs attention to the supplied information; it does not determine whether the candidate should be employed or engaged.

  • No confirmation issues requiring review
  • Differences between candidate-declared and referee-supplied information
  • Concerns disclosed by the referee
  • Unanswered or incomplete information
  • Limits on what the referee could confirm
  • Information requiring customer review

Employment reference screening

What the service collects from a nominated referee

A professional reference check adds context that a résumé cannot provide. AuthNTick collects and presents consistent referee responses without treating opinion as independently verified fact.

When a Reference Check is useful

Final-stage employment screening

Roles involving supervision, safety or client responsibility

Consistent referee questions across candidates

Documented evidence for an auditable hiring file

Referee evidence

Information collected from a referee

Referee relationship

Record how the referee knows the candidate, whether they worked together and the referee’s position and organisation.

Role and employment details

Present the candidate-declared role and dates alongside the employment information confirmed by the referee.

Performance, conduct and suitability

Collect structured ratings, comments, disclosed concerns, suitability answers and re-employment responses.

Documented source responses

Retain the referee’s original answers, declaration, unanswered items and relevant limitations as the supporting record.

Structured workflow

How the Reference Check workflow operates

Step 1

Choose your questionnaire

Generate a role-specific questionnaire using AI, start from a pre-built template or create your own. Review and customise the questions, then select the template and required referee count in your organisation package.

Step 2

Collect candidate consent and referee details

The candidate provides nominated referee details and authorises contact for the stated screening purpose.

Step 3

Obtain the referee response

Invite nominated referees digitally. The standard employment questionnaire guides them through Confirm details → Employment → Performance → Conduct → Suitability → Review. Custom questionnaires can have different sections.

Step 4

Receive the structured report

Review the status, referee details, confirmed employment information, ratings, comments, suitability responses, limitations and complete question-and-answer record.

Fair interpretation

What the report does and does not establish

Reference feedback adds role-relevant context, but it remains referee-supplied information and does not replace a fair customer decision.

1

The report records information supplied by the nominated referee. A referee’s statement is not automatically an independently verified fact.

2

The report does not guarantee the candidate’s future performance or workplace conduct.

3

Referees may decline particular questions or be restricted by an employer policy.

4

The report must not be used to assess protected personal attributes or other irrelevant information.

5

Reference feedback should be considered with other lawful, role-relevant evidence.

6

AuthNTick records and presents screening information but does not make the final employment or engagement decision.

7

A Reference Check differs from factual Work History Verification, which focuses more narrowly on employer, title and employment dates.

Review guidance

Keep the questions relevant to the role

The standard questionnaire focuses on observable employment, responsibilities, performance, conduct and suitability information.

  • Use the role context to focus the customer’s assessment on genuine responsibilities and risks.
  • Apply consistent core topics when comparing candidates for the same position.
  • Avoid protected personal attributes and matters unrelated to the screening purpose.

Review guidance

Assess the response with the broader evidence

Reference feedback reflects what the referee observed and what they are able to disclose. It should support, not replace, customer review.

  • Consider the referee’s relationship to the candidate and the relevance of their examples.
  • Compare material differences with interviews, candidate declarations and separately verified employment facts.
  • Give the candidate a reasonable opportunity to explain a material difference where appropriate.

Frequently asked questions

What does the completed Reference Check report include?

The report includes the review status, referee details, employment information, duties and performance responses, conduct and risk information, suitability answers, complete referee responses, limitations and customer decision guidance.

Can I see the referee’s original answers?

Yes. The completed report retains the question-and-answer record so the customer can review the information supporting the reported status and observations.

Does AuthNTick independently verify everything stated by the referee?

No. AuthNTick records and presents the nominated referee’s responses. The report identifies what the referee confirmed, but AuthNTick does not independently guarantee the accuracy or completeness of every statement.

What happens if the referee’s information differs from the candidate’s?

A material difference can be identified for customer review. The employer should consider the context, confirm the information where appropriate and give the candidate a reasonable opportunity to explain the difference.

Does AuthNTick decide whether the candidate should be hired?

No. AuthNTick provides screening information and does not make employment or engagement decisions. The customer remains responsible for its final decision.

Can more than one referee be requested?

Organisation packages can require one, two or three referees. The standard unconfigured workflow allows up to two. The candidate follows the count configured for their check. Each referee’s response remains separately identifiable in the completed report.

Can the questions be tailored to the role?

Yes. Hiring teams can generate a role-specific questionnaire using AI, choose a pre-built template or create a questionnaire from scratch. Review and customise the questions before selecting the template for an organisation package. AI drafts need customer review for relevance and accuracy.

What happens if a referee does not respond?

The workflow sends reminders while an eligible referee request remains pending. Pending referee details can be updated before submission. If a response is not received before the invitation expires, the result can record the unverified status and related limitation for customer review.

What is the difference between a Reference Check and Work History Check?

A Reference Check collects qualitative feedback and confirmation from a nominated referee. A Work History Check focuses more narrowly on factual employment claims such as employer, position and employment dates.

Role-relevant evidence

Designed to support AS 4811:2022-aligned, risk-based workforce screening.

AuthNTick Reference Checks are designed to support an organisation's AS 4811:2022-aligned workforce screening process. A Reference Check alone does not establish or certify an organisation's compliance with AS 4811:2022.

Within the candidate journey — Screen → Assess → Interview → Verify → Hire — references provide corroborating evidence alongside CV Screening, Skills Assessments, Eilo AI Interviews and background screening, identity and other verification. The customer weighs the complete evidence and makes the hiring decision.
